Dr Kathryn Jones is Managing Director of IAITH: welsh centre for language planning since 2016, formerly Senior Consultant and subsequently Director of Language Policy and Research with IAITH since 1999. A sociolinguist by training, Kathryn has worked nationally and internationally in the fields of bilingualism/multilingualism and language policy and planning since 1986. Kathryn gained her ESRC funded doctoral research into the bilingual language and literacy practices of Welsh speakers while at Lancaster University. She has directed and carried out a wide range of academic and government/other agency funded research projects in the fields of multilingualism, bilingual education and language policy and planning in Wales, several European contexts and Tanzania. She has also authored and delivered academic modules on sociolinguistics, bilingualism, bilingual education and language policy & planning at the universities of Lancaster, Bangor and Trinity St David. Together with colleagues at IAITH: welsh centre for language planning, Kathryn is co-founder of Cynllunwyr Iaith Cymru (Language Planners Wales).
